Migrate from Cachet
Cachet is a self-hosted status page, and you run the server, the database and the upgrades. Its newest tagged release is v2.4.1, from November 2023; the 3.x rewrite on its main branch has no tagged release yet, and its issue tracker carries threads asking whether the project is still maintained. If you would rather stop hosting it, the import below rebuilds your components and groups from Cachet's own public API in one step, and the page then shows what checks measure instead of what someone remembered to set.
Paste your Cachet address
In your dashboard, open Import from another service and paste the address of your Cachet page. Cachet 2.x answers /api/v1/components and /api/v1/components/groups to any visitor, without an API token, so you do not hand over a key. Every enabled component comes across in Cachet's order, inside a component group of the same name, all operational. A component your page already has is left as it is, so running it twice adds nothing twice.
Connect each component to a check
In Cachet, a component changes state when a person sets it or a script calls the API. On RealUptime a component follows a check, and RealUptime Monitor runs those checks from four regions on Free, eight on Pro, all ten on Business. Add an HTTP, keyword, TCP, DNS or heartbeat check for each imported component and attach it; anything no check can measure stays a manual component with a state you set. Free covers 10 monitors.
Bring subscribers and decide about history
Cachet's subscriber list is behind an admin token, so the importer does not read it. Export the addresses from your Cachet dashboard or database as a one-email-per-row CSV and upload it to your status page's subscriber importer (Pro and Business). You attest that these people subscribed to your old page, and each address gets one confirmation email before it receives anything else, so nobody is silently re-subscribed.
Past incidents stay in Cachet. An incident on RealUptime belongs to a check that observed it, and creating one now would email every subscriber about an outage that is long over. If you need the record, keep the old page read-only for a while or link to it from your new page.
Point your domain at the new page
When the new page looks right, point your status domain at it (custom domains are on Pro and above) and switch the Cachet server off. That is one fewer PHP application, database and queue worker to patch.
Feature mapping
Cachet features, mapped to RealUptime Status
What the importer brings over from Cachet 2.x, and what you set up by hand. Endpoint names are from Cachet 2.4's own source.
Components
Status page components, imported · Have
Enabled components, with names, descriptions and order. Disabled ones are not listed publicly and are not read.
Component groups
Component groups, imported · Have
Each component lands in a group of the same name.
Component status set by hand or by API
Status driven by checks, or a manual component · Partial
Attach a check to a component and its state follows the check. Manual components stay available.
Incidents and incident updates
Incidents, from now on · Partial
History is not imported, because recreating it would notify subscribers about old outages.
Scheduled maintenance
Scheduled maintenance · Partial
Recreate upcoming windows by hand; past ones are not imported.
Subscribers
Email subscribers, by CSV import · Partial
Cachet's subscriber list needs an admin token, so export it and use the CSV import (Pro and Business). Each address confirms once.
Metrics graphs
Response time and uptime from checks · Partial
Cachet's custom metric points are not imported. Pages show response time and uptime from the attached checks.
The account comes with all four products. RealUptime Status hosts the page, so there is no server to patch. RealUptime Monitor runs the checks behind it. RealUptime Errors catches the exceptions a status check cannot see, free for 10,000 events a month. RealUptime Outages tracks the vendors your service depends on and needs no account. One signup provisions the free tier of each, with no card.
