Migrate from Grafana OnCall OSS

Grafana OnCall OSS entered maintenance mode on March 11, 2025, and its repository was archived on March 24, 2026; the README points users to Grafana Cloud IRM. A self-hosted install keeps running, but it gets no more fixes. RealUptime imports the two things that take longest to rebuild, on-call schedules and escalation chains, with one OnCall API token, and Grafana alerting can open incidents here through an inbound alert URL. Anything without an equivalent is listed with the reason before you import.

RealUptime vs PagerDuty for on-call

Already have a RealUptime account? Open Import from another service and bring your monitors across with the CSV import.

Rather send us the list? Email it to support@realuptime.io and we will import it within 48 hours.

Invite your responders

Rotations and escalation steps here can only name people on your team, and the importer matches OnCall users to them by email. Invite your responders first. The preview lists anyone it could not match, so nobody is silently dropped from a rotation.

Copy the API URL and create a token

In Grafana OnCall, open Settings, copy the API URL and create an API token. A Grafana service account token works too, with your Grafana URL in the extra field. The importer reads users, schedules, shifts, escalation chains and escalation policies, writes nothing to OnCall, and uses the token only for the import, so you are asked for it again on the import step. Your OnCall server has to be reachable from the public internet for the import to read it.

Review the preview and import

In your dashboard, open Import from another service and use Import from Grafana OnCall. Each daily or weekly rolling shift becomes a rotation, starting from the person OnCall would start from, with its handoff time and time zone. Each escalation chain becomes an escalation policy: waits fold into the step before them, a step that notifies whoever is on call from a schedule pages that rotation, and a repeat step repeats the policy five times, as OnCall does. On-call starts on Pro, so the import runs on Pro and Business, by an owner or admin. Monitors are separate and free for 10.

Send Grafana alerts here

OnCall received your Grafana alerts; here an inbound alert URL does. Create one under Account settings, Integrations, and add it to Grafana as a webhook contact point. A firing alert opens an incident on your status page, and the resolved notification closes it. Monitor's own checks page the escalation policy you attach to them. The steps are in opening incidents from alerting tools.

Feature mapping

Grafana OnCall features, mapped to RealUptime Monitor

What the importer creates from each part of Grafana OnCall, by the names in OnCall's own API reference, and where the models differ.

Web and Terraform schedules with daily or weekly rolling_users shifts

on-call rotations, imported (Pro and Business) · Have

People in order from the shift's start index, handoff time and time zone. A schedule with several shifts becomes one rotation per shift.

Partial-day shifts, day filters, overrides and swaps

Whole-period rotations, adjusted by hand · Partial

A rotation here covers the whole day or week, and the preview notes what each shift loses. Overrides and swaps are not imported.

iCal schedules

Rebuilt by hand · Don’t have

An iCal schedule has no shifts in the API to read, so it is listed as skipped.

Escalation chains

escalation policies, imported (Pro and Business) · Have

Notify persons, notify from schedule and wait steps carry over; repeat escalation repeats five times.

Round-robin, user group, team, webhook and time-window steps

Steps that page a person or a rotation · Partial

Round-robin steps page their first person. The rest are listed with a note.

Grafana alerting integration

Inbound alert URL as a webhook contact point · Have

Phone calls and SMS through Grafana Cloud

No equivalent · Don’t have

RealUptime pages by email, Slack, webhooks, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and more, or through PagerDuty. It places no phone calls of its own.

The same account includes all four products. RealUptime Monitor runs the on-call and its own uptime, heartbeat and server checks, which page the escalation policies you import. RealUptime Status is the public page the checks feed. RealUptime Errors catches application exceptions, free for 10,000 events a month. RealUptime Outages tracks the vendors you depend on and needs no account. Teams comparing paging tools can also read where Opsgenie teams go.
